Piece of Cake Productions is a crew of Tidewater burners, dreamers, makers and builders. Since 2017 I have worked with this phenomenal collection of humans on a wide array of projects. I first became involved when we built the effigy for the Hermitage Museum’s Art of Burning Man Closing Night Party, a 30-foot-tall articulated wooden mermaid tail on a barge. I then designed, prototyped and led fabrication on 200 glass counterweights for our public art project for the City of Virginia Beach titled “The World Below the Brine,” currently on view at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront at Rudee Loop. Our passion project for Burning Man 2019 was a 50-foot-tall wooden confection called the MEGA CAKE, for which I designed and created 24 custom screen printed fused glass panels as well as assisting with the overall construction. Special thanks to Bullseye Glass for their generous material support of our project! MEGA CAKE went up in a blaze of glory, viewed by an approximate 20,000 people in Black Rock City.
